MATH
We hope you have had the opportunity to speak with your Grade 3 student about the Unit 1 vocabulary (we sent the list home this week). Your child will be expected to understand and use this vocabulary throughout the unit and on upcoming assessments.
READING
We continue to work individually with each Grade 3 student on establishing baseline reading levels, and choosing appropriate independent books. Each Grade 3 student is expected to read 20 books outside of school by the end of the school year. Thank you for spending the next month checking in nightly on your child's reading progress, and his or her correct collection of reading data in his or her reading log. Establishing and maintaining good habits are so important.
HANDWRITING
Beginning October 1, each Grade 3 student is expected to correctly write his or her first and last name in cursive. We will be sending home the exact same practice sheets from this week, so please continue to support your child's correct formation. Tracing the example is one key to success. Those with the letters o, d, c, g and a in their names must remember to make the "Magic C Bunny" first, before reversing direction to compete the actual letter desired.
HOMEWORK
Also beginning October 1, we will be keeping formal track of homework success. Here is what we are looking for: all books, papers, assignments and folders are carried back and forth each day to school, homework is checked each night by a parent and then "signed off" on, reading logs are filled out correctly, assignments are completed on time, homework is packed up and unpacked correctly and all work is completed to one's best ability. Please know we are here to support your child in establishing good study habits. We are available anytime to give you tips and suggestions if your child is struggling with his or her homework or with taking reponsibilty for work and belongings.
Have a lovely weekend! We love your children and can't wait for Monday!
