The Pirate's Cove"Our classroom is somehow terrifying and funny at the same time!"-Stevenson 3rd grader What an incredible week in Pirates Cove! A week full of excitement and build-up finally culminated with a fun-filled Halloween parade and carnival. Thanks to all of our parent volunteers who brought delicious treats for after lunch, and another very special shout out to the mothers who decorated our classroom so nicely! We're a little biased, but we think it looked the best out of all the classrooms at the Carmel campus. Aside from the knights, rainbows and ninjas on Thursday, the third grade did manage to focus on some academic work. This week, third grade pirates wrote their final drafts for the Pirate Planet newsletter. On this assignment, we were lucky to get help from some fellow Pirates. Seventh grade students from Mr. Avedissian's writing class came down to the third grade to help us with editing, revising and typing. Together, third graders worked with their seventh grade partners to create well polished final articles. It was very very cool to watch. Woohoo! Also in Pirates Cove this week, third graders began their study of maps and were introduced to a few of the map skills they will be focusing on in the coming weeks. Third graders continue to work hard on their mental math (subtraction, addition) as well as their multiplication facts. We hope the students can see and chart the progress they make over the next few weeks. A genuine thank you, again, to all of the volunteers who made our classroom look so incredible. The kids LOVED the decorations and it certainly helped bring the Halloween cheer to third grade. We are so lucky to have such caring parents. With gratitude, Nina and John |
